An 87-year-old man in Adamawa State has been charged with severing the hand of a judge with a cutlass.

The man, Dahiru Garba of Korawa village in Fufore Local Government Area, allegedly fell into a fit of rage and cut off the hand of the presiding judge of Mayo-Inne Area Court, Dauda Hamman.

DAILY POST gathered on Tuesday that the incident occurred last Monday, August 31, when the judge was presiding over a case between Dahiru Garba and one Ismail Yusuf.

According to the Adamawa State Police Command, which is prosecuting the case, “The suspect attacked the presiding judge with a cutlass and severally cut his hand, causing him grievous injuries.”

The command added, “Following the incident, Dahiru Garba was immediately arrested by police operatives, and the case was transferred from the Divisional Police Headquarters, Fufore, to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yola, on 4th September 2026 for further investigation and diligent prosecution.”

A press statement released Tuesday morning by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, explained further: “Upon completion of investigation, the suspect was on Monday, 7th September 2026, arraigned before Chief Magistrate Court I, Yola.”

Nguroje said Dahiru Garba is being prosecuted on a one-count charge of causing grievous hurt, contrary to Section 219 of the Penal Code Law of Adamawa State, 2018.

“When the charge was read and interpreted to the defendant, he pleaded guilty and blamed the devil for his action,” Nguroje stated.

He said the court ordered that the suspect be remanded at the Yola Correctional Facility pending further hearing.

The police spokesman disclosed that ASP Zakka Musa is prosecuting Garba on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Kabir Umar Hassan.
