Adebayo, in his book, Farewell to Poverty and Insecurity, outlined a two-track approach involving continued expansion and modernisation of the national grid alongside rapid development of mini-grids, embedded generation and stand-alone power systems.

The final list of candidates released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the 2027 general elections has sparked fresh disputes, with candidates and political parties challenging alleged omissions and substitutions.

From the presidential race to the Senate and State Houses of Assembly, affected candidates and parties have raised concerns over names missing from the final list. Some have threatened legal action, while others have already commenced court proceedings.

INEC, however, has rejected allegations that it altered candidates’ lists submitted by political parties, insisting that the parties themselves uploaded the names using access codes provided by the commission.

Speaking in an interview with LEADERSHIP Sunday, the deputy director, Voter Education and Publicity, Wilfred Ifogah, said the commission published what the political parties submitted.

 Anger mounted yesterday over the reported deaths of 37 suspected illegal miners in the custody of the Niger State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, as the Federal Government suspended 20 officers and ordered an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
Specifically, government constituted a 10-member independent committee to investigate the incident.
The action followed President Bola Tinubu’s directive for a comprehensive, transparent and unhindered investigation into the incident, which occurred on Thursday, September 17, 2026.
Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who announced the measures yesterday, described the deaths as deeply disturbing, saying government owed the families of the deceased and the Nigerian public a transparent account of what happened.
5.  Daily Trust on Sunday in one of its lead stories report on the failed Third Teem agenda of former President Okusegun Obasanjo and the bribery allegation that trailed it.
Former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Farouq Aliyu, has claimed that he rejected the N250 million offered to him to support the third term agenda of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

He said the speaker of the House of Representatives at the time, Aminu Masari, also rejected the sum of N400 million to support the bid.

The third term agenda was one of the most controversial issues that characterised the administration of Obasanjo, who
was president between 1999 and 2007.

In May 2006, the National Assembly rejected a bill that sought to amend Nigeria’s constitution, which would have allowed Obasanjo run for a third successive term in office.

 

The former president has repeatedly denied that he sought a third term in office.
Speaking during during the ‘Naija Unfiltered’ podcast, published via YouTube on Friday, Aliyu insisted that Obasanjo’s third term agenda was real.
According to him, during discussions about the third term agenda, Nuhu Ribadu, who was the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, asked him to come to Abuja for a meeting with Obasanjo.
