The Lagos State Government has launched the “Turn Alausa Purple” campaign as part of activities marking the 2026 Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness Month, with the Head of Service, Mr Bode Agoro, calling for collective action to prevent domestic and sexual violence across the state.
In a statement posted on the Lagos State Government’s Facebook page, the government said Agoro joined the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) to champion the campaign, which is aimed at drawing public attention to the realities of domestic and sexual violence and encouraging collective action towards its prevention.
The government said the initiative reflects Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s administration’s continued commitment to protecting residents and tackling Domestic and Sexual Violence (DSV) through sustained investment in prevention, survivor support, public awareness and access to justice.
Speaking on the campaign, Agoro said the fight against domestic and sexual violence should not be left to government agencies alone, but requires the involvement of individuals and institutions.
“Turning Alausa purple is more than illuminating our offices and public spaces. It is a statement that we recognise the problem, we care about those affected, and we are committed to creating an environment where everyone feels safe and protected,” he said.
The Head of Service urged public servants to see themselves as important stakeholders in the fight against DSV, stressing that awareness must translate into action.
He called on them to speak up, support survivors and direct those in need to appropriate support services.
Under the campaign, public buildings, offices and strategic locations within Alausa will be illuminated and adorned in purple, the recognised colour of the DSV awareness campaign.
According to the government, the visual display is expected to serve as a reminder to workers, visitors and residents that preventing domestic and sexual violence is a responsibility that requires everyone’s involvement.
Also speaking, the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, Mrs Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, said the campaign goes beyond changing the physical appearance of the environment, noting that it is designed to spark conversations and inspire action.

“We want the purple in Alausa to be more than a colour. We want it to remind everyone who sees it that domestic and sexual violence is real, it affects people around us, and we all have a role to play in preventing it,” she said.

Vivour-Adeniyi urged public servants experiencing violence, as well as those who witness or suspect cases of abuse, to speak up and seek appropriate support.
She stressed that survivors should not be left to face their experiences alone, while calling on members of the public, private organisations, the media, schools, communities and other stakeholders to support the awareness campaign.
She urged stakeholders to share accurate information on prevention, reporting channels and available support services.
The Lagos State Government said the “Turn Alausa Purple” campaign forms part of wider activities lined up for the 2026 Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness Month.
It said the initiative reinforces its commitment to building safer homes and communities while strengthening collective action against domestic and sexual violence.
The government, through the DSVA, reaffirmed its commitment to protecting residents, supporting survivors and strengthening systems that promote prevention, justice and accountability in the fight against domestic and sexual violence.
