Katsina police arrest man over alleged killing of 80-year-old father

The Katsina State Police Command has taken a 27-year-old man, Sada Tambai, into custody over the alleged killing of his 80-year-old father, Adamu Tambai, in Bindawa Local Government Area.

The incident occurred on September 21, 2026, in Mundadu Village, where the deceased, a former Ward Head of the community, was reportedly found unconscious outside his home.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, confirmed the development in a statement released on Saturday.

He said the Bindawa Police Division received a distress call around noon from the District Head of Bindawa, Dan Yusufan Katsina, informing the police that the elderly man had been found lying motionless in front of his residence.

Police detectives were subsequently dispatched to the village, while the victim was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The medical team, however, pronounced him dead upon arrival at the facility.

Aliyu said subsequent police investigation led to the arrest of the deceased’s son, who allegedly admitted during questioning that he struck his father on the head with a stick.

According to the police, the alleged assault caused injuries that led to the elderly man’s death.

Following the development, the Commissioner of Police in Katsina, CP Ali Umar Fage, directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

The command said the suspect would be taken to court after investigators conclude their investigation.
