Kano Govt Calls For More Investment In Fulbe Education, Livelihoods

The Kano State Government has called for increased investment in education, economic opportunities and peaceful coexistence to improve the livelihoods of Fulbe communities in Nigeria and beyond.

Deputy Governor Murtala Sule Garo made the call on Saturday while representing Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf at the Tabital Pulaaku International Assembly held at the Bristol Palace Hotel in Kano.

This was contained in a statement by the Public Relations Officer, Office of the Deputy Governor, Lurwanu Idris Malikawa Garu.

Speaking on the theme, “Towards Growing the Economy, Livelihoods and Education for Fulbe Communities,” Garo said greater attention was needed to address the challenges facing communities whose livelihoods are largely connected to livestock production, agriculture and trade.

He called for improved access to finance, livestock services, water, grazing facilities, markets and skills development, particularly for women and young people.

“There is therefore a need to enhance these livelihoods by providing access to finance, improving livestock development, creating opportunities for women and youth, and supporting skills development,” the Deputy Governor said.

Garo also stressed the importance of providing quality education for children, especially those in rural and herder communities.

He advocated an approach that combines conventional, religious, vocational and digital education to equip young people with skills required to participate in the modern economy.

The Deputy Governor further called for dialogue and understanding among farmers, herders and other communities as part of efforts to promote peaceful coexistence.

He said the Kano State Government was willing to collaborate with Tabital Pulaaku International, traditional institutions and other stakeholders to develop practical solutions to challenges affecting the communities.

The Emir of Kano, Khalifa Muhammadu Sanusi II, who spoke before the Deputy Governor’s address, commended the Kano State Government for supporting the gathering and accommodating participants.

Sanusi also called for greater clarity in the responsibilities of Tabital Pulaaku International’s international and national structures.

He explained that while the international body should provide strategic direction and coordination, national chapters should take responsibility for issues concerning their respective countries.
