“I’ll soon leave music for you people” — Davido

Afrobeats superstar Davido has sparked reactions after revealing that he may soon step away from music to focus on building greater wealth and making billions.
The singer made the remark during a heated exchange with Nigerian rapper Erigga on X, formerly known as Twitter, over a discussion about musicians from wealthy and humble backgrounds.
Davido and Erigga disagree over family wealth
The exchange began after Erigga praised musicians who did not come from wealthy families and had to work hard to earn their success.
“Shoutout to all the musicians who don’t come from family money and had to grind for every single dollar they earn,” Erigga wrote.
However, Davido disagreed with the rapper’s position, arguing that coming from a wealthy family does not mean an individual cannot work hard to achieve success.
“No be we say make your pops no guard o. Shoutout to the ones that came from family money and still grind to the top,” Davido responded.
The singer’s reply appeared to challenge the popular belief that artistes from privileged backgrounds have easier paths to success than those who start without financial support.

Singer speaks about leaving music
The conversation later became more heated, with Davido describing Erigga’s statement as “useless motivation” and calling him an “imbecile.”
Davido then made a surprising revelation about his future in the entertainment industry, suggesting that he could eventually leave music behind.
“No worry o I go soon leave their music for una go make my billions… then that shit gonna be boring AF,” he wrote.

His comment immediately drew attention online, especially as Davido remains one of Africa’s biggest and most commercially successful music stars.
The singer has previously expanded his interests beyond music, including investments and other business ventures, making his latest comment fuel speculation about his long-term plans.
Davido ended the exchange with a blunt question about the reality of poverty, asking, “Deep down, who like poverty?”
