ICPC grills Ekiti APC rep candidate, Toyin Okoro over alleged fraud

Operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) have questioned Toyin Okoro, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Ise-Orun/Ikere/Ekiti federal constituency in the 2027 election, over alleged fraud.

Okoro, a former senior legislative aide (SLA) to Tajudeen Abbas, speaker of the House of Representatives, arrived at the ICPC headquarters in Abuja at about 2pm on Thursday.

His invitation followed a formal notice dated September 7, 2026, and signed by Oshinyemi Oluwaseun, ICPC head of special duty team, on behalf of the chairman of the anti-graft agency.

TheCable understands that Okoro waited for about 30 minutes at the ICPC reception before he was ushered into an interrogation room at about 2:40pm.

He was questioned by a team of investigators for more than two hours before being released on bail at about 5pm.

Okoro was reportedly asked to return for further questioning at a later date.

According to the notice of invitation seen by TheCable, the anti-graft agency is investigating Okoro over an alleged violation of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000.

“”Pursuant to section 28 & 40 of the above cited Act, you are kindly required to appear before the undersigned at the Commission’s headquarters, Abuja on 17 September 2026 by 10am prompt,” the notice reads.

“Additionally, you may wish to come with a lawyer or any individual of your choice.”

The agency accused Okoro of operating a private company while serving as SLA at the National Assembly, contrary to public service rules.

He was also accused of using his position as a public servant to secure public contracts for the private company from the Nigerian Port Authority (NPA), Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), NASENI, among others.

It was gathered that when the alleged offences were reported to anti-graft agencies, Okoro allegedly falsified and backdated his resignation letter to defend his actions.

Okoro was also accused of receiving salaries and allowances from the National Assembly while serving as the beneficial owner of the company.

He was further accused of lying under oath in his submissions to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), based on evidence from the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and National Assembly.

As of the time of filing this report, Okoro was yet to publicly respond to the allegations.

The ICPC investigation remains ongoing, and the allegations against Okoro have not been established as findings of guilt.
