FBI Director Kash Patel has said the United States recorded what he described as the most significant year of crime reduction in the country’s history under President Donald Trump.

Patel made the claim in a post on X, where he highlighted declines in murder, carjacking and robbery, alongside tens of thousands of criminal and violent crime arrests.

“Under President Trump’s leadership, this FBI delivered the most prolific year of crime reduction in U.S. history,” Patel said.

According to the FBI director, the murder rate dropped by 20 per cent, while carjacking declined by 47 per cent and robbery fell by 17 per cent.

He also said the FBI recorded more than 57,000 criminal arrests and over 54,000 arrests linked to violent crimes.

Patel further disclosed that more than 11,000 child victims had been located, while over 5,000 predators and traffickers were arrested.

On the fight against the illicit drug trade, he said more than 3,258 kilogrammes of fentanyl had been seized.

The FBI director also highlighted the bureau’s fugitive operations, saying eight of the 10 most wanted fugitives had been captured.

“Eight of the top 10 most wanted fugitives on Earth — off the board,” he wrote.

Patel attributed the reported progress to the support provided by the Trump administration to law enforcement agencies.

“Thank you, Mr. President, for backing the men and women of law enforcement,” he said.

The figures cited by Patel come against the backdrop of the FBI’s latest national crime data, which showed a substantial decline in violent crime in the United States.

The FBI reported that violent crime fell by an estimated 9.3 per cent in 2025 compared with 2024, describing the decline as the largest year-to-year reduction in the violent crime rate since the bureau began estimating national crime trends in 1936.

The bureau’s figures showed that murder and non-negligent manslaughter declined by an estimated 18.1 per cent in 2025, while robbery fell by 18.5 per cent. Rape declined by 7.6 per cent and aggravated assault by 7.2 per cent.

Property crime also recorded a decline of 12.4 per cent during the year.

The FBI estimated the 2025 murder rate at 4.1 per 100,000 inhabitants, while the estimated violent crime rate stood at 327.6 offences per 100,000 inhabitants.

The bureau said its data was based on information submitted by law enforcement agencies across the country and covered nearly 97 per cent of the US population.
