EPL: Why I Joined Liverpool — Isak

Liverpool striker Alexander Isak has revealed that joining the Premier League giants was an “easy decision”, despite the difficult circumstances surrounding his departure from Newcastle United.

The Sweden international moved to Liverpool on deadline day in September 2025 for a British-record transfer fee of £125 million.

Speaking to BBC Sport’s The Football Interview on Friday, Isak said Liverpool’s stature, ambition and determination to sign him convinced him that the move was the right one.

“Liverpool is a massive club, and everything about the club made it pretty clear,” Isak said.

“The club’s ambition and the club’s will to get me in as well. It was a big part of it,” he said.

Isak’s departure from Newcastle followed a turbulent period in which he trained away from the first team at former club Real Sociedad.

The striker had said promises made to him at Newcastle had been broken.

His first season at Anfield, however, was disrupted by injury. Isak managed only 1,032 minutes across 22 appearances before a leg break ruled him out from December until April.

He scored three Premier League goals.

Despite the difficult campaign, the 26-year-old insists he never regretted his decision to join Liverpool.

“No, never. I would never think like that,” he said when asked whether he had ever regretted the move.

Isak believes his focus on the future helped him deal with the setback.

“The leg break was tough. Anyone who had a long injury would know,” he said.

“But on the other hand, when you’re in a good place and when you feel good, you don’t really tend to look back because it doesn’t really benefit you.”

The striker has begun the new campaign in encouraging form, already matching his previous season’s Premier League tally of three goals after just four games.
