The federal government has fulfilled its financial reward to Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, with each player receiving the naira equivalent of $100,000 for their historic triumph at the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket.

The National Sports Commission (NSC) confirmed that the players’ accounts were credited on September 9, 2026, while each team official received the naira equivalent of $50,000.

According to the NSC, all beneficiaries have confirmed receipt of the payments.

The development completes the financial component of the reward promised by President Bola Tinubu following D’Tigress’ remarkable achievement in 2025.

D’Tigress made history at the 2025 Afrobasket by winning the continental championship for a record fifth consecutive time and seventh time overall, further cementing Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s basketball.
