Lagos LG chair urges Christians to support humanity

The Chairman of Badagry Local Government Area, Babatunde Humpe, has urged Christians to uphold the values associated with Christ and remain shining examples within the Church and society.

Humpe gave the charge while speaking as the Special Guest of Honour at the 45th anniversary celebration of the Christ Morning Star Society of Nigeria, Lagos Chapter, held on Sunday at the Cathedral Church of St. Thomas, Badagry.

The council chairman said members of the society had consistently demonstrated commitment to the work of God, urging them to sustain their support for the Church and humanity.

“I have observed the activities of your society right from my days as the People’s Warden of the church. You have demonstrated uncommon love for the work of God, and I charge you to continue to do more,” he said.

Humpe also urged the society to extend its charitable activities beyond the Church by supporting initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of residents.

“As you support the work of God, continue to extend this love to humanity by supporting government at all levels in delivering the dividends of democracy to the people. I am impressed with the annual palliative programme you organise for the less privileged in our churches. Please continue,” Humpe added.

He stressed the importance of prayers and constructive engagement with leaders, noting that government alone could not meet all the needs of the people.

In his sermon, the Dean of the Cathedral, Ven. Dickson Ilegbusi, commended the activities of the society and urged its members to continue to reflect the light of God through their actions and commitment to the propagation of the Gospel.

As part of the anniversary celebration, the Lagos Chapter, led by its President, Star Olusegun Sobowale, distributed food palliatives to indigent families within the church and the surrounding community.
