Delta Police Arrest Six, Recover Tramadol, Rohypnol in Agbor

The Delta State Police Command has arrested six suspects and seized quantities of suspected illicit drugs during an operation targeting an alleged drug distribution outlet in Agbor.

The suspects were apprehended by operatives of the Department of Operations following intelligence that a store along Alegwe Street, off Owa Road, was being used to sell and distribute illicit substances.

Six Suspects Arrested in Agbor Operation

The command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Thursday.

Those arrested were identified as Anabel Haruna, 18; Terhemen Faith, 19; Kaityo Abigail, 23; Iorkee Eunice, 26; and Osomuri Emmanuel, 31.

A 15-year-old girl was also taken into custody during the operation. Her identity was withheld by the police because of her age.

Following the arrests, police operatives searched a vehicle allegedly connected to the suspects and recovered quantities of Tramadol, Rohypnol and other substances suspected to be illicit drugs.

The command said the suspects and the recovered exhibits remained in custody as investigations continued.

Commissioner Orders Intensified Enforcement

The operation was carried out as part of intensified efforts by the police to tackle the distribution and sale of illicit drugs across Delta State.

The Commissioner of Police, Samuel Erale, had directed officers and other personnel to strengthen intelligence gathering and enforcement operations against individuals and groups involved in the illicit drug trade.

Erale warned drug dealers and their associates that the command would continue to identify and dismantle networks involved in the distribution of illegal substances.

According to the commissioner, the widespread abuse and distribution of illicit drugs contribute to violent crime and other criminal activities within communities.

He therefore ordered police formations across the state to sustain intelligence-led operations against suspected drug dealers and their networks.

The commissioner also stressed that the command would not allow Delta State to become a safe haven for drug trafficking or other criminal enterprises.
