Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo has vowed that the deaths of 37 suspected illegal miners in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) will not be swept under the carpet.

Tunji-Ojo stated this on Friday after arriving at the Government House in Minna, Niger State, where he met with Governor Umaru Bago over the incident.

The minister is also expected to visit the facility where the deceased were detained.

“I want to assure you, as government, that this will not slide,” Tunji-Ojo said.

TVC News Online reports that the visit follows the deaths of the 37 suspected illegal miners while in NSCDC custody, with both state and federal authorities setting up panels to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
