The Confederation of African Football (CAF) will provide a $100,000 grant to clubs eliminated from its inter-club competitions during the preliminary rounds.

The financial support will apply to clubs knocked out of the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup before reaching the group stage.

The measure is designed to provide financial relief to participating clubs, particularly those with limited resources, by helping to offset some of the costs incurred during their continental campaigns.

The grant can assist clubs with expenses related to travel, logistics and other operational costs associated with their participation in the competitions.

The decision also represents a change in CAF’s financial policy towards clubs eliminated in the early stages of its inter-club competitions.

Previously, clubs that exited the Champions League or Confederation Cup during the preliminary rounds did not receive financial compensation.

Under the new provision, clubs that fail to reach the group stage will still receive financial support despite their elimination, with the $100,000 grant providing additional assistance as they continue their domestic campaigns.

El-Kanemi Warriors advanced to the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday despite losing 1-0 to UDIB in Bissau.

The Maiduguri-based side progressed 3-1 on aggregate after securing a 3-0 victory in the first leg played in Nigeria last weekend.

However, it was a disappointing day for Nigeria’s other representatives, with Shooting Stars and Rivers United both eliminated from the CAF inter-club competitions.

Shooting Stars suffered a 2-0 defeat to CS Sfaxien in Tunisia, ending their campaign in the competition.

In the CAF Champions League, Rivers United were held to a 2-2 draw by San Pedro of Côte d’Ivoire in Uyo.

The result left the tie level at 3-3 on aggregate after the first leg ended 1-1 in Côte d’Ivoire.

San Pedro advanced on the away-goals rule, leaving Rivers United out of the Champions League.
