Women have taken to the streets in Osun State to protest the rising cases of killings and pre-election violence ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
The protesters marched to the Osun State Police Command headquarters, where they submitted a petition calling for urgent action to address the violence and protect residents.
The women also demanded that security agencies investigate incidents of violence, apprehend those responsible and ensure that perpetrators are held accountable.
The protest comes amid heightened political activities in the state ahead of the governorship election, with concerns over the safety of voters, political actors and residents.
Civil society organisation Yiaga Africa, which reported the protest, said the women were demanding stronger security measures to halt further violence and safeguard the electoral process.
The protesters urged the police and other security agencies to act swiftly to prevent further loss of lives and ensure that citizens can participate in the election without fear.
