A former Caretaker Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area in Rivers State, Ambassador Chidioke Ihunwo, has declared support for the Rainbow Coalition, pledging to work for the election of President Bola Tinubu and all candidates backed by the political alliance ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ihunwo, who was one of Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s strongest allies during the prolonged political crisis in Rivers State, said his decision followed Governor Fubara’s call for reconciliation and unity.
Speaking during an interview on Beyond the Headlines, Ihunwo said he was aligning with the governor’s directive to support the coalition.
“Our governor has said there is peace in Rivers State and that we need to move on. If you truly support him, you should join him in the Rainbow Coalition. That is what we are doing for peace to reign in our state,” he said.
He added that Governor Fubara had directed his supporters to rally behind President Bola Tinubu and all candidates presented by the coalition.
“I am following the governor because he is my principal. Whatever he asks me to do, that is what I will do. We are going to work together to ensure that all the members of the Rainbow Coalition are elected, including Mr President,” Ihunwo stated.
He said he would return to Obio/Akpor to mobilise support for the coalition ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to him, his loyalty remains with Governor Fubara, insisting that supporting the coalition does not amount to betrayal but a commitment to peace in Rivers State.
He maintained that the governor’s reconciliation initiative should be embraced by all his supporters in the interest of stability and development.
