A man has sparked an emotional conversation on social media after highlighting the often-overlooked pain parents experience when their young daughter becomes pregnant outside marriage.

In a now-viral post, the man described how a father he knew struggled emotionally after discovering that his daughter was pregnant.

According to him, the man became so disappointed that he stopped speaking to his wife and other children.

“He was so disappointed because she’s his smartest daughter”

The man said the father had high hopes for his daughter and found it difficult to accept that she had become pregnant.

He wrote: “We don’t actually talk about the pain parents pass through when their young daughter comes home with pregnancy. It can be very hard on parents.

“I know someone whose daughter got pregnant recently and he stopped talking to his wife and his other children at home. He was so disappointed because she’s his smartest daughter.

“I saw the pain in his voice and I just couldn’t listen to him again.”

The post quickly attracted reactions, with many social media users urging parents to respond with compassion rather than rejection.

Several commenters noted that anon  unexpected pregnancy can be devastating for parents, particularly when they had already imagined a different future for their child.

Social media users react

Damilare urged the father to accept the situation and continue supporting his daughter.

He wrote: “Let him embrace it and he should not try to sent her daughter away. He should show compassion and take care of her with advice. If her daughter never finished secondary school make she wait at home until she deliver her baby.”

Another user, Juwondebbie, encouraged parents to help their daughter continue pursuing her goals despite the pregnancy.

She wrote: “All he can just do is support her and make her believe she can still reach her goals without letting her do the journey alone. It can be disappointing and painful but with his support and that of her mother, They can help her achieve her dreams. Omo bibi o kin se arun.”

Winter shared a personal experience of witnessing an older man become emotional over his daughter’s pregnancy.

He wrote: “Mehn! that sh!t is traumatizing. I once watched a 59 year old man break down in tears while soliciting for funds from my Uncles in villa ‘cos his daughter got pregnant. I walked away immediately he began sobbing. I couldn’t stand the scene. I almost cried myself.”

Vert offered a different perspective on the father’s silence, suggesting that it could be an expression of deep emotional pain rather than anger.

He wrote: “That kind of silence isn’t anger, it’s often unprocessed heartbreak, a parent mourning the path they imagined for their child before adjusting to the one now unfolding.”

Casmir also pointed out that pregnancy can make a family’s private struggles more difficult to conceal.

He wrote: “The problem with pregnancy is that it is visible. Everybody can see and imagine what happened. Internal crisis may be rocking family but everyone can lock up.. but you see belle…. where you wan hide am.”
