Turkey: Osimhen rejects Galatasaray’s No.9 shirt, gives reason

Super Eagles attacker, Victor Osimhen, has clarified his decision to reject the number nine shirt at Galatasaray, choosing instead to stick with his number 45 jersey ahead of the new season.
Having made a permanent transfer to the Turkish champions last summer, Osimhen has quickly become an integral part of the team, showcasing a series of remarkable performances for the Yellow-Reds.
Due to his impressive play, the Nigerian international was frequently mentioned as a potential successor to the iconic number nine shirt left vacant by Mauro Icardi.
Nevertheless, despite the ongoing speculation, Osimhen has chosen to keep his number 45 jersey throughout Galatasaray’s preseason training.
In explaining his choice, Osimhen expressed his preference for the number that has brought him success at Rams Park.
“I believe that you will sell more shirts, but I believe you will understand my perspective. The number 45 has been lucky for me at Galatasaray,” Osimhen stated via Sabah.
“I wish to continue with the same number,” he added, firmly declining the number 9.
Since his permanent transfer from Napoli last summer, following a successful loan period, Osimhen has become a beloved figure among fans.
Recently, the Nigerian international opened his preseason goal tally during Galatasaray’s 3-3 draw against Rennes in Istanbul.
Osimhen now aims to build on that performance and sustain his exceptional form as the Turkish champions gear up for the upcoming season.
