Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 33 passengers abducted by terrorists in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The rescue operation followed credible information received by troops and personnel of the Nigeria Police Force deployed in Tsafe on the late afternoon of Saturday, August 8, 2026, about the abduction of passengers travelling through the Magazu area of the local government.

Acting on the information, the troops swiftly mobilised to the area and engaged the terrorists who were already moving the abducted passengers to an undisclosed location.

The security forces engaged the terrorists with effective fire, forcing them to abandon the victims and flee into the surrounding bushes.

The troops subsequently secured the area and rescued all 33 passengers without any casualty.

Following the operation, the troops commenced a search of the surrounding area and continued efforts to track down the fleeing terrorists.

In a statement issued on Sunday, August 9, by the Media Information Officer of Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, the Theatre Commander commended the troops for their swift response and professionalism.

The commander also reaffirmed the commitment of the operation to protecting civilians, restricting the activities of terrorists and securing major transportation routes across the North-West.

“The Theatre Commander, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, commends the troops for their prompt response and professionalism, which led to the safe rescue of the passengers without any casualty,” the statement said.

The command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with credible information about the activities and movements of terrorists and other criminal elements.
