Troops Repel ISWAP Attack On Gajiram Base, Neutralise Several Terrorists

Troops of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, have repelled an attack by ISWAP terrorists on a Forward Operating Base in Gajiram, Nganzai Local Government Area of Borno State.
The attack occurred at about 12:20am on Monday, August 10, 2026, when a large number of terrorists attempted to overrun the military position.
According to the Acting Military Information Officer of Headquarters Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, troops responded with sustained fire, forcing the attackers to withdraw after suffering heavy casualties.
Several terrorists were reportedly neutralised during the engagement, while troops recovered weapons, ammunition and communication equipment from the area.
A review of surveillance footage after the encounter also confirmed that the retreating terrorists evacuated several casualties from the battlefield.
However, some soldiers sustained injuries after part of the defensive position was temporarily breached. Military vehicles and other combat equipment were also damaged by Rocket Propelled Grenade fire.
The injured soldiers were evacuated by air and are reported to be in stable condition while receiving medical treatment.
Following the attack, troops have maintained a strong presence in and around the Gajiram base and adjoining areas to dominate the terrain, monitor terrorist movements and prevent further attacks.
The Theatre Command urged residents of Gajiram and neighbouring communities to remain calm and continue their lawful activities.
Residents were also encouraged to report suspicious movements and activities to the nearest security agency.
The military said further exploitation of the operational area and assessment of the terrorists’ casualties and activities were ongoing.
