Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, says the state is ready to host the inaugural National Intermediate Sports Festival, with rehabilitation work ongoing at Teslim Balogun Stadium and other sports facilities.

Sanwo-Olu, in a post on his social media platforms, said the natural grass pitch at the stadium had been completed, while work on the new tartan track would be completed in the coming weeks.

“I am pleased with the progress so far. The natural grass pitch is complete, while work on the new tartan track will be finished in the coming weeks.”

He said indoor halls, swimming pools and other facilities were also being upgraded ahead of the festival, which is expected to attract thousands of young athletes from across the country.

“For the past three years, we have been rebuilding sports centres across Surulere, Ikorodu, Epe, Agege and Badagry, because our young people deserve quality facilities close to home.”

Sanwo-Olu said the investment was aimed at helping young people discover their talents, compete with confidence and build careers in sports.

“We want them to discover their talents, compete with confidence and see a future for themselves in sports right here in Nigeria.”

The governor added: “Lagos is ready and we look forward to welcoming the next generation of Nigerian athletes.”
