PSC Deploys Monitoring Team To Osun, Warns Police Officers

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has deployed a monitoring team to Osun State ahead of the August 15 governorship election, warning police officers against misconduct and political bias.

The commission said the delegation would monitor the conduct of police personnel deployed for the election and ensure strict compliance with guidelines governing election duties.

The team is led by retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Taiwo Lakanu, a PSC board member and chairman of the commission’s standing committee on police matters.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Head of Protocol and Public Relations, Torty Kalu, the PSC said the delegation would monitor police operations before, during and after the election.

According to the commission, the deployment is aimed at ensuring discipline and professionalism among police officers and strengthening public confidence in the electoral process.

“The PSC delegation will ensure that officers deployed for the election strictly adhere to the guiding principles governing election duties and uphold the highest standards of discipline and professionalism before, during, and after the polls,” the statement said.

The commission urged all police officers deployed to Osun to remain apolitical and respect the rights of citizens to freely exercise their franchise.

It also directed the officers to maintain professionalism and ensure that the election is conducted in a peaceful atmosphere.

“The commission urges all police officers assigned to Osun State for the election to display exemplary conduct, remain apolitical, and protect the rights of all citizens to vote freely and peacefully,” it added.

The PSC warned that officers found compromising the credibility of the election would face disciplinary action.

“The PSC reassures Nigerians that it will not hesitate to sanction any officer found compromising the credibility of the election,” the commission said.

The monitoring team’s deployment comes ahead of the August 15 governorship election, in which 14 political parties are expected to participate.

The police has already deployed 15,000 personnel to the state for the election.

The PSC said its monitoring exercise was part of efforts to ensure that police personnel perform their duties impartially and in accordance with the law.
