Police Bust Alleged Ponzi, Visa Scam Ring, Arrest 23 Foreigners

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested 23 foreign nationals following a raid on a residential building in the Ota area of the state over alleged involvement in a Ponzi scheme, visa fraud and other immigration-related offences.

The suspects were arrested on August 4, 2026, during an operation carried out by operatives of the Atan-Ota Division of the command following credible intelligence about suspected fraudulent activities at the location.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday in Abeokuta.

Babaseyi said the operatives moved swiftly after receiving the intelligence, secured the premises and arrested the suspects for questioning and further investigation.

He said: “23 foreign nationals were arrested in connection with alleged Ponzi scheme, visa scam and other immigration-related offences.”

According to him, preliminary investigation led to the transfer of 21 of the suspects to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) on August 5 for further investigation into their immigration status and other related matters.

The remaining two suspects were kept in police custody for possible prosecution over alleged obtaining by false pretence and other offences, pending the conclusion of investigations.

“The investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged fraudulent activities and identify any other persons connected with the scheme,” Babaseyi said.

The police did not disclose the identities or nationalities of the suspects, nor did the command reveal the amount of money allegedly involved in the suspected Ponzi scheme.
