Police arrest five suspects over alleged fraud, transformer vandalism, others in Yobe

Five suspects have been arrested in connection with separate cases of fraud, vandalism of a community transformer, and causing grievous hurt in different parts of Yobe state by operatives of the state police command.
This was disclosed in a press statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, and made available to newsmen on Thursday.
According to the statement, operatives of ‘A’ Division Damaturu, on 6th August arrested two suspects, Mohammed Sani, 26, of Zanna Zakarya Housing Estate, and Ali Isa Waziri, 25, of Waziri Ibrahim Housing Estate, over a fraud incident reported on 31st July, 2026.
“The suspects were alleged to have fraudulently obtained one carton of OBA Spaghetti and two half bags of parboiled rice from a shop along Ajari–Gashua Road, Damaturu, after an accomplice impersonated the complainant via a telephone call.
“The stolen food items were recovered as exhibits and investigation is ongoing ahead of prosecution,” the statement added.
In another incident, Fika Divisional Police headquarters received a report on 6th August at about 0800hrs that unknown persons vandalized a community transformer and stole its power cable.
Following the report, police operatives in collaboration with community members and vigilantes arrested Ibrahim Musa, 23, of Bizagula Ward, Potiskum, with the stolen cable.
Two other suspects were later arrested in connection with the crime and the stolen cable was also recovered as exhibit.
The command also disclosed that it is investigating a case of causing grievous hurt reported at Tarmuwa division where preliminary findings revealed that a 22-year-old suspect allegedly shot his victim with a bow and arrow after accusing him of being found in a compromising situation with his wife near her parents’ residence at Danewa-Biriri Village, Tarmuwa LGA.
“The victim is currently receiving treatment at the police hospital, Damaturu, while the suspect has been arrested,” the command said.
