Osun Shooting: Suspect Alleges APC Candidate Hired Him

A man arrested in connection with an incident involving the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, has allegedly claimed that he was hired by Francis Eniade, the APC House of Representatives candidate for the Ifelodun, Boripe and Odo-Otin Federal Constituency.
The suspect was reportedly arrested wearing a police uniform and carrying a firearm. During interrogation, he allegedly admitted firing two shots and said he had accompanied Eniade to the location of the incident.
He further claimed that he worked for Eniade and had been hired to accompany the group. However, the allegations against Eniade have not been independently verified, and the suspect’s claims remain allegations pending further investigation.
The suspect also gave conflicting accounts about ownership of the firearm, initially claiming it belonged to him before linking it to another individual. He said he brought the weapon from Lagos and claimed he fired after believing that occupants of a vehicle were attempting to attack them.
Questioned about wearing a police uniform, the suspect reportedly claimed membership of an organisation he called “NFS”, saying the group had members in Osun State, but declined to provide further details.
The development follows a petition reportedly submitted by Egbedun’s lawyers to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, over an alleged threat involving Eniade.
Egbedun said the petition was aimed at protecting lives, upholding the law and safeguarding the democratic process, rather than pursuing political vendetta. He also urged residents to remain calm ahead of the August 15 governorship election and encouraged eligible voters, particularly supporters of Governor Ademola Adeleke, to participate peacefully.
