Dr. Adedeji Adeleke, elder brother of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has attributed the family’s victory over opposition to prayers rather than financial strength.
Adeleke spoke at a ceremony held to celebrate his brother’s victory in the Osun State governorship election, in a video shared on Monday by an X user, #Oyindamola.
He said the outcome of the election was not a reflection of which side had more money or spent more on the exercise, stressing that divine intervention played a major role in Ademola Adeleke’s victory.
According to him, the only reason why they won is “not because we are bigger, or we spend more money.”
Adedeji alleged that the opposition spent billions of naira during the election, with voters in some areas reportedly offered as much as N50,000 each in exchange for their votes.

“On election, they did not spend any money. They spent 60 billion as we heard. Some places they bought votes for as high as 50,000 Naira for one single vote.”
He recalled that he became concerned after hearing reports about the alleged scale of spending on election day and subsequently withdrew to his room to pray.
According to him, his prayer was that voters would accept whatever money was offered to them but still cast their ballots for his brother.
“On the day of the election, when I heard the kind of money they were spending, I went back to my little corner in my room and I knelt down and I prayed to God. I said, God Almighty, please let people collect their money, but let them still vote for Ademola Adeleke.”
The governor’s brother also said his prayers did not begin on election day, explaining that he had maintained a regular prayer routine ahead of the poll.
He said he regularly studied passages from the Bible as part of his spiritual preparation, particularly Isaiah 41, which he described as an important part of his daily prayers and testimony.
His comments came after Ademola Adeleke secured victory in the Osun governorship election, defeating his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to retain the governorship seat.
