The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 33-year-old woman over an alleged N42.3 million visa fraud involving more than 90 prospective travellers.

 

 


According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the suspect, Adejoke Ayomide, was arrested on August 5 after detectives investigated allegations that she collected money from victims under the guise of securing travel visas to Spain, Portugal and France.

Jimoh said the investigation followed a petition dated July 17, 2026, submitted by Barrister Akindayomi Oluwa Tobi & Associates on behalf of the victims.

 

 

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect presented herself as a travel consultant capable of securing visas to Spain, Portugal and France.

 

 

Acting on these representations, the victims entrusted her with processing travel documents for more than 93 intending travellers,” the statement said.

 

 

Police alleged that the suspect received a total of N42,326,000 through her Opay account for the purported visa processing but later became unreachable.

 

 

“Following sustained intelligence-led operations, the suspect was successfully tracked down and apprehended on 5th August, 2026, in a coordinated operation by detectives of the Command,” Jimoh said.

 

 

He added that the suspect is in custody and “has made useful confessional statements,” while efforts are ongoing to identify possible accomplices and determine whether there are additional victims.

 

 

“The suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations,” the statement added.

 

 

The Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, Felix Ohagwu, urged members of the public to exercise caution when dealing with travel agents.

 

 

“The Command advises members of the public to exercise due diligence before engaging individuals or agencies for visa processing and overseas travel arrangements.

 

 

Prospective travellers are encouraged to verify the authenticity and credentials of travel agents before making payments,” the statement said.
