NPC chair, Wushishi dies eight months after assuming office

The Chairman of the National Population Commission, NPC, Dr Aminu Yusuf Wushishi, is dead.
Wushishi, who hailed from Niger State, died on Friday, throwing his associates and political circles into mourning.
His Special Adviser on Media, Stanley Nwosu, confirmed the death.
“Yes, it is true. The NPC chairman died after a brief illness,” Nwosu said.
Wushishi, a former Secretary of the Niger State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, was said to have fallen ill shortly before his death.
DAILY POST reports that Wushishi formally assumed office as Chairman of the National Population Commission on December 2, 2025.
He succeeded Nasir Kwarra, who concluded his five-year tenure as NPC chairman in December 2025.
At the time of filing this report, details surrounding Wushishi’s death and funeral arrangements were still awaited.
