Nollywood Mourns as Actress Tope Osoba Dies at 41 After Breast Cancer Battle
The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of popular Nollywood actress, Temitope Kofoworola Osoba, widely known as Tope Osoba, after a courageous battle with breast cancer.
News of her passing emerged on Wednesday, leaving fans, colleagues, and well-wishers devastated, especially after she had previously announced that she had overcome the disease and resumed her acting career.
Tope Osoba had openly documented her health struggles in late 2024 after discovering a lump in her breast during a routine self-examination. Following medical tests, she revealed that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer and appealed for public support to fund her treatment.
In November 2024, the actress underwent her first surgery as part of her treatment. She later received financial assistance from colleagues in the Nigerian movie industry, including actress Foluke Daramola, as well as contributions from fans and other supporters, enabling her to undergo additional medical procedures.
After months of treatment and recovery, Osoba returned to social media in August 2025 with encouraging news, announcing that she had defeated the illness. She expressed gratitude to everyone who stood by her throughout the difficult period and revealed that she was ready to rebuild her acting career and pursue new opportunities in Nollywood.
Her announcement at the time was met with widespread celebration, as fans and colleagues welcomed her return to the screen and praised her resilience and determination.
However, despite her apparent recovery, the actress has now passed away, bringing a heartbreaking end to her long fight against the disease.
Tope Osoba, who hailed from Abeokuta in Ogun State, would have celebrated her 41st birthday in December 2026.
Following the announcement of her death, social media has been flooded with emotional tributes from fellow actors, filmmakers, friends, and admirers. Many described her as a talented performer, a courageous woman, and an inspiration whose openness about her health battle gave hope to others facing similar challenges.
Her passing marks another painful loss for Nollywood, with many remembering her not only for her contributions to the entertainment industry but also for the strength and optimism she displayed throughout her battle with breast cancer.
