Ooni Donates N100m, Hilux Vehicle to Sunday Igboho’s Security Outfit

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has pledged a N100 million donation and a brand-new Hilux vehicle to the Iru Ekun Security Network, a community-based security outfit established by Yoruba nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.

The monarch announced the support during a courtesy visit by Igboho and members of the security outfit to the Ooni’s palace in Ile-Ife, Osun State.

Speaking in a video from the event, the traditional ruler reaffirmed his confidence in the cultural and traditional heritage of the Yoruba people while declaring his support for the initiative.

“There is power in Yorubaland. Anyone who says there isn’t is deceiving himself or herself,” the Ooni said.

“We will all stand by and support you. I now want to pledge N100 million to your outfit. I will give you the money in instalments. I will spread it across ten payments, but they won’t be far apart. So today, you will go home with N10 million.”

The monarch said the donation was intended to encourage other prominent Yoruba sons and daughters to contribute to the development of the security initiative.

“I am making this donation as an example and a message to all wealthy Yoruba sons and daughters,” he added.

The Iru Ekun Security Network, whose name translates to “the tail of a leopard” in Yoruba, was unveiled by Igboho on July 24 in Ilorin, Kwara State.

According to Igboho, the outfit was created to complement the efforts of government and conventional security agencies in combating kidnapping, banditry and other violent crimes in communities across the South-West and adjoining areas.

He also said the group would focus on reclaiming forests allegedly occupied by criminal elements, insisting that such locations would no longer serve as safe havens for bandits.

Earlier in May, Igboho disclosed that all necessary documentation for the establishment of the security outfit had been submitted to the Federal Government for approval.

However, it remains unclear whether the Federal Government has granted official approval for the operation of the security network.
