NEMA Reaffirms Commitment To Federal Character Principle

The Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs Zubaida Umar, has reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to upholding the Federal Character principle in its management processes in line with government regulations and guidelines.

Mrs Umar gave the assurance during an interactive session with the leadership of the Federal Character Commission (FCC) at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

The FCC Chairman, Mrs Hulayat Motunrayo Omidiran, said the meeting formed part of the Commission’s routine engagement with heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to familiarise them with its procedures, guidelines and expectations.

Responding, Mrs Umar thanked the Commission for the opportunity to engage with its leadership and gain further insight into its operational procedures.

“NEMA remains committed to adhering to the Federal Character principle and will continue to ensure transparency, fairness and due process in its management processes and other activities.”

During the session, FCC Commissioner Mr Pam Botmang commended the NEMA Director-General for what he described as her transparent leadership and called for sustained engagement between the two organisations to strengthen collaboration and promote adherence to the Federal Character principle.

Both agencies said the meeting provided an opportunity to deepen mutual understanding of their respective mandates and expectations.
