NEMA DG Holds Strategic Meeting Ahead Of Early Warning Initiative

Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Zubaida Umar, on Wednesday convened a high-level meeting with heads of key government agencies ahead of the official launch of the Early Warnings for All (EW4All) Initiative, aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s disaster risk management system.

The meeting, held at NEMA headquarters in Abuja, brought together the Director-General of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Professor Charles Anosike; the Managing Director of the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA), Ahmed Ibrahim Mohammed; the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr Aminu Maida; and the Director-General of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Dr Matthew Adepoju.

Umar said the meeting reflected the agencies’ shared commitment to improving coordination in disaster preparedness and response in line with President Bola Tinubu’s national security and development agenda.

“Today’s meeting demonstrates our collective commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s disaster risk management architecture through effective inter-agency collaboration, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s national security and development agenda,” Umar said.

She said the Early Warnings for All initiative would establish a more integrated national early warning system capable of delivering timely and reliable hazard information to communities across the country.

“Through EW4All, we will build a stronger, more coordinated national early warning system that reaches every person, leaves no one behind, and ultimately saves lives,” she said.

According to Umar, the initiative is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s capacity to anticipate disasters, reduce risks and improve the protection of lives and livelihoods through enhanced collaboration among relevant agencies.
