NAF Airstrikes Neutralise Scores Of Bandits Advancing From Zamfara Into Kebbi

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA has conducted a precision airstrike on a large group of armed bandits advancing from Zamfara State into Kebbi State, reportedly neutralising scores of the criminals.

According to a report by security analyst Zagazola Makama, the operation was carried out on Monday, August 10, following intelligence indicating that a large bandit formation had moved from the Sangeko Gap in Zamfara towards Makuku in Kebbi State.

The bandits, estimated at about 240 fighters, were reportedly divided into three groups and travelling on motorcycles towards the community.

Following the intelligence, Nigerian Army troops and personnel of the Nigeria Police Force mobilised to contain the threat, resulting in intense engagements with the armed group.

The Air Component subsequently launched an air interdiction mission targeting identified concentrations of the bandits.

Sources familiar with the operation said the strikes resulted in the neutralisation of scores of the criminals and disrupted their planned movement into Kebbi communities.

The aerial operation also provided support to ground forces engaged with the bandits and helped prevent the group from gaining access to vulnerable communities.

Residents in some affected communities reportedly began precautionary evacuation as security forces intensified efforts to contain the situation and prevent further movement of the bandits.

Battle-damage assessment is ongoing to determine the full extent of casualties inflicted on the criminal group.

The operation underscores the growing coordination between air and ground forces under Operation FANSAN YAMMA to disrupt bandit formations and prevent them from massing and launching attacks across the North-West.
