The Nigerian Air Force says it has killed nine ISWAP fighters, including a senior commander, during a precision air strike in Borno State.

The operation targeted terrorists moving through the Sambisa Forest and is being described by the military as a major setback for the insurgent group.

The Nigerian Air Force says the strike was carried out on Saturday after intelligence reports indicated the movement of suspected ISWAP fighters within the Sambisa Forest in Borno State.

According to the Air Force, a Remotely Piloted Aircraft conducted sustained intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance operations, allowing operators to identify and track the terrorists to a suspected hideout before a precision strike was launched.

Military authorities say post-strike assessments confirmed that nine ISWAP fighters were killed, while several others were wounded.

Among those reportedly killed was Abu Khalid Al Muhajir, described as a key ISWAP commander responsible for providing security escorts for senior members of the terrorist group.
