Law students of Atiba University, Oyo State, have reportedly shut down the institution in protest over alleged injustice by the university management.
The development was disclosed by the President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Babatunde Akinteye in a post on his X handle.
Akinteye said the students were protesting issues affecting them within the institution.
He called on the National Universities Commission (NUC) to consider suspending the university’s licence until the concerns raised by the law students are resolved.
He also announced that the leadership of NANS would join the students’ agitation to press for the resolution of their grievances.
The complaints raised by the students bothered on the alleged complicity of the University authorities in the reported non accreditation of the Institution’s Law programme for years despite admission of students who have all paid the required fees waiting for National service.
The students alleged that they were unaware of the issue until now when they have all graduated and awaiting national with others still being admitted to study law in the university.
The protest adds to concerns over the welfare and academic conditions of students in tertiary institutions, with NANS urging relevant authorities to intervene.
