LaLiga: Ademola Lookman responds to Atletico Madrid boss, Diego Simeone’s apology

Super Eagles attacker, Ademola Lookman, has responded to Atletico Madrid boss, Diego Simeone’s apology regarding his being used in an unfamiliar position during the first matches of the 2026/2027 season.
Lookman was unable to score in the first two games against Malaga and Villarreal, which led Simeone to publicly apologize to the Nigerian for utilizing him as a center forward due to the absence of Julian Alvarez and Alexander Sorloth.
However, the Nigeria international made a notable comeback by scoring in Atletico Madrid’s 3-1 win over Sevilla at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium on Saturday night.
In his favoured left-wing position, the former Atalanta player found an opening in the box and struck a low shot into the bottom corner during the first half.
In an interview with ESPN after the match, Lookman emphasized the significance of sustaining their positive momentum while striving for improvement and team development.
In response to his manager’s apology, Lookman commended Simeone and his coaching staff, expressing his eagerness to continue his development under their guidance.
“Playing under him is fantastic. I am gaining a lot of knowledge and working on my improvement. Learning from him and his team is crucial for my growth and for assisting the team.”
Lookman transferred to Atletico Madrid from the Italian club Atalanta during the winter transfer window after experiencing a challenging first half of the season in Serie A.
The Nigerian forward quickly justified the trust placed in him by Simeone, contributing goals and numerous assists since his arrival at the Wanda Metropolitano.
His recent goal serves as a significant boost as he aims to solidify his role as a key player in Atletico’s attacking strategy this season.
Lookman is now eager to sustain his remarkable form and continue making impactful contributions as Atletico Madrid seeks to mount a strong challenge throughout the 2026/2027 season.
