The Lagos State Government has arrested a suspected vandal for allegedly removing iron rods, cables and steel reinforcements from a concrete barrier at Mile 12 along Ikorodu Road.

The suspect was apprehended at Kosofe Bus Stop during a monitoring and enforcement operation, the state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed in a post on his Instagram handle on Saturday.

Wahab said the barrier was installed to prevent pedestrians from crossing the expressway at unauthorised points.

According to him, the suspect was caught deliberately removing structural components from the barrier, which could compromise its stability and effectiveness.

“The suspect was found deliberately removing iron rods, cables, steel reinforcements, and other critical structural components that contribute to the stability and effectiveness of the concrete barrier,” Wahab said.

He said the suspect had been arrested and would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

“The suspect has been arrested and will be prosecuted in accordance with the law,” the commissioner said.

Wahab said the enforcement operation was part of the state government’s efforts to protect public infrastructure and improve safety for residents and road users.

“This enforcement action underscores the Lagos State Government’s commitment to protecting public infrastructure and ensuring the safety of all road users and residents,” he added.
