Former United States President Joe Biden’s prostate cancer has spread to his bones and is causing him significant pain, according to his son, Hunter Biden.
Hunter disclosed this in an interview with the BBC broadcast on Friday, while discussing his father’s health and the impact of the diagnosis on the Biden family.
He became emotional while describing his father’s condition, saying the progression of the disease had been difficult for the family to witness.
“The cancer has spread, metastasized into his bones and further,” Hunter said. “It’s very painful and it’s very debilitating in many respects.”
Biden, 83, was the oldest person to serve as US president during his 2021-2025 tenure, with concerns over his age and health becoming a major issue during his presidency and 2024 re-election campaign.

He ended his re-election bid after a widely criticised debate performance against Donald Trump, who went on to win the election.
Biden announced his prostate cancer diagnosis in May 2025, less than four months after leaving the White House.
Hunter said the diagnosis had been particularly difficult for the family, adding that he wished his father would speak more openly about the challenges he was facing.
“It’s really sad to watch,” Hunter said. “The only thing that I’d say about my dad, about his health right now, is I wish he would complain more, because it’s not good.”
Despite his condition, Hunter said his father remained active in public life and continued to speak about issues important to him.
“He’s still doing his thing,” Hunter said. “He so believes in this country.”
Biden is also preparing to publish a memoir titled Promise Me, America, which is expected to be released after the US midterm elections.
