FUTATH Clarifies Salary Structure, Says Ondo Govt Still Pays Permanent Staff

The Management of the Federal University of Technology Akure Teaching Hospital (FUTATH) has clarified the salary structure for its workforce following the institution’s transition from a state-owned facility to a federal teaching hospital.

In a statement issued in Akure by the head, Public Relations of the hospital, Tope Fayehun, the management explained that two categories of workers currently exist, with their salaries being paid by different tiers of government.

According to the Management, permanent staff inherited from the former Ondo State-owned hospital remain on the payroll of the Ondo State Government. It added that the Federal Government is responsible for the payment of salaries of non-regular staff recruited to sustain operations since the hospital attained federal status.

The clarification comes amid concerns over remarks attributed to the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Professor Olusegun Ojo. The Management stressed that the comments were misinterpreted and were never intended to suggest that the Federal Government had taken over the payment of salaries for all categories of workers.

It further explained that the Federal Government’s intervention is limited to the remuneration of non-regular personnel engaged to ensure uninterrupted healthcare service delivery during the transition period.

The hospital noted that the current arrangement aligns with the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Federal Government and the Ondo State Government at the point of transfer.

FUTATH added that both governments have continued to discharge their respective responsibilities to guarantee the smooth running of the institution, pending the full implementation of the transition process.

While reaffirming its commitment to transparency and quality healthcare delivery, the Management urged members of the public and stakeholders to disregard any misconceptions capable of creating unnecessary tension.

It also expressed appreciation to both the Federal and Ondo State Governments for their sustained support and called for continued cooperation as the hospital consolidates its position as a federal tertiary health institution
