Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has cited Highlife singer Flavour as an example of how Nigerian artistes can build profitable careers without constantly travelling abroad.
Davido made the remarks during a BBC podcast, where he discussed the growing trend of Nigerian entertainers travelling to the United States for performances and other career opportunities.
According to the singer, Flavour has taken a different path by maintaining a strong presence in Nigeria while continuing to grow his music career and business interests.
Davido said the approach has proved financially rewarding, claiming that Flavour earns more in Nigeria than many Nigerian artistes currently touring the United States.

“You don’t always have to follow what everybody else is doing. Flavour is making more money in Nigeria than a lot of artistes that are touring in America,” Davido said.
The DMW boss used Flavour’s career to illustrate his argument that entertainers do not necessarily have to follow industry trends to achieve success.
He said artistes should recognise that career paths differ and make decisions based on strategies that best suit their individual goals.
Davido noted that while several Nigerian artistes have been travelling across the US in search of shows and other opportunities, Flavour has continued to leverage performances, endorsements and business ventures in Nigeria.
He also urged entertainers to think independently and avoid adopting popular industry trends simply because others are doing the same.
