Fintiri Targets Skills-Based Education In Adamawa

Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transforming technical education by prioritising practical skills, innovation, entrepreneurship and economic self-reliance.

Fintiri spoke when a delegation from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), led by Garba Danasabe, visited him as part of the Board’s accreditation assessment of the state’s College of Innovation, Science and Entrepreneurship.

The assessment is aimed at verifying information and documentation submitted by the state and determining whether the institution meets prescribed regulatory standards for accreditation and sustainable operation.

Danasabe said the NBTE team would conduct a comprehensive verification exercise and make recommendations on areas requiring improvement or adjustment.

Receiving the delegation, Fintiri welcomed the assessment, describing it as an opportunity for Adamawa to measure the institution against established national standards.

He assured the NBTE of the state government’s full cooperation, adding that the government was prepared to make necessary adjustments to bring the institution in line with regulatory requirements.

However, the governor said his administration’s ambition extended beyond obtaining accreditation.

Fintiri said the government was determined to develop the institution into a full-fledged college capable of producing graduates with practical skills rather than certificates alone.

He said the objective was to ensure that students passing through Adamawa’s education system acquired skills that could make them economically productive and provide a means of livelihood.

The governor’s position reflects his administration’s broader push to shift education in the state from a predominantly certificate-driven model towards one focused on skills acquisition, innovation, entrepreneurship and self-reliance.

The NBTE assessment is expected to provide the institution with a framework for meeting the standards required for accreditation and further development.
