FG Distributes Over 1,000 Livestock Feed Inputs To Farmers In Bayelsa

The Federal Ministry of Livestock Development has distributed more than 1,000 livestock feed inputs to farmers across Bayelsa State as part of efforts to boost livestock production, improve farmers’ livelihoods and strengthen food security.

The intervention was carried out on Saturday, August 8, 2026, by the ministry’s Department of Ranch and Pastoral Resources Development.

Representing the Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, the Director of Ranch and Pastoral Resources Development, Dr Hakeem Ibilade, said the initiative was designed in response to concerns raised by livestock farmers in the state.

Ibilade described the distribution as part of the ministry’s efforts to adopt a responsive and farmer-centred approach to the development of Nigeria’s livestock sector.

He urged beneficiaries to use the inputs properly and continuously to improve livestock productivity, while encouraging farmers to organise themselves into cooperatives and associations to facilitate access to future government interventions.

The State Coordinator of the ministry, Dr Unobong, said the items distributed included groundnut cake and salt licks to support animal nutrition and improve livestock production.

He said similar interventions were being implemented in other parts of the country, stressing that the Federal Government remained committed to ensuring that livestock farmers benefited from support programmes regardless of their location.

Another State Coordinator, Dr Bamigboye, said the initiative was aimed at supporting sustainable food security and increasing the availability of nutritious livestock products such as meat, eggs and milk.

He added that improved livestock productivity could create employment opportunities, strengthen the livestock value chain and open up opportunities for export-oriented products, including hides and skins.

The beneficiaries commended the ministry for the intervention but appealed for additional support in the form of livestock production inputs, equipment and machinery to enable them expand their operations.

The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to working with livestock farmers and other stakeholders to improve productivity, create jobs, enhance food security and promote sustainable development of the livestock sector.
