The Enugu State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old suspected armed robber and recovered a locally made pistol and a live cartridge during a citizen-supported operation in Obollo Etiti, Udenu Local Government Area.
The arrest followed credible information received by the police at about 1:45pm on Monday, 10 August 2026, about the suspicious activities of a young man who had arrived at a hotel claiming he wanted to lodge.
Acting on the information, police operatives searched the suspect’s bag and recovered the locally made pistol and live cartridge.
The suspect, identified as Chekwube Agbo, was subsequently arrested and taken into custody along with the recovered exhibits.
During preliminary interrogation, the police said Agbo confessed to being a member of an armed robbery gang allegedly specialising in threatening and robbing Point-of-Sale (POS) operators of their valuables.
The suspect reportedly told investigators that other members of the gang fled after his arrest.
The police said efforts were ongoing to identify and apprehend the fleeing suspects, while investigations continue.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, commended the citizen who provided the information, stressing the importance of promptly reporting suspicious persons and activities to the police.
The Command said the suspect would be prosecuted after the conclusion of investigations.
