Ekiti Police Arrest Suspected Cult Member, Recover Locally Made Gun

The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old suspected cult member, identified as Sunday Samuel, and recovered a locally made firearm from him in Efon Alaaye, Efon Local Government Area of the state.

Samuel was arrested at about 11:45 p.m. on August 7 following credible intelligence received by operatives of the Efon Divisional Police Headquarters about his presence in the town.

The police subsequently recovered the locally made gun from the suspect during the operation.

According to a report by Punch, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti State Command, Sunday Abutu, disclosed this in a statement made available in Ado Ekiti on Sunday.

Abutu said, “Upon receipt of the information, operatives immediately commenced investigation. The investigation led to the suspect’s arrest. A locally made single-barrel gun loaded with one cartridge and a mobile phone were recovered from him.”

The PPRO said the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Michael Falade, had ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Ado Ekiti, for further investigation.

He stated, “The commissioner assures residents that the command remains committed to preventing cult-related activities and other forms of criminality across the state.

“The command therefore urges members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely and credible information to the police, as discreet monitoring and security operations are ongoing.”

The arrest came amid efforts by security agencies in Ekiti State to curb cult-related activities and other forms of criminality through intelligence gathering, surveillance and targeted operations.
