The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned three persons before the Oyo State High Court in Ibadan over alleged visa fraud involving more than N30 million.

The EFCC Ibadan Zonal Directorate arraigned Emmanuel Serah Motunrayo, Awotunde Olugbenga and Idowu Olugbemi Sunday in separate proceedings before Justice Olusola Adetujoye.

Motunrayo and Olugbenga were arraigned on a 47-count charge bordering on forgery, uttering of documents and obtaining money by false pretence involving N23.4 million.

The EFCC disclosed this in a statement via its X handle on Thursday.

According to the anti-graft agency, the two defendants allegedly presented themselves as travel and immigration agents based in Abuja and promised their victims assistance in securing Canadian visas and making travel arrangements.

The charges alleged that the defendants obtained N12.36 million from Oluwatobi Adeoluwa Iyanda and N11.03 million from Oyewale Tunji Bello before allegedly reneging on their promises.

One of the counts alleged that Motunrayo and Olugbenga obtained N527,000 from Iyanda by falsely representing that they would secure a valid Canadian visa and flight ticket for him.

Another count accused them of forging a Canadian visa dated June 20, 2025, bearing Travel Document No. B011745448 in Iyanda’s name.

The defendants were also accused of allegedly uttering another purported Canadian visa dated July 6, 2025, bearing Travel Document No. B50125702 in the name of Bello.

The charges alleged that the documents were purported to have been issued by the Canadian government.

The defendants pleaded “not guilty” to all the charges.

Following their pleas, EFCC counsel, Mohammed Abideen, asked the court to fix a date for trial and remand the defendants in a correctional centre.

Defence counsel, Jimoh Wasiu, informed the court that bail applications had been filed and urged the court to grant his clients bail pending the determination of the case.

Justice Adetujoye adjourned the matter until August 26, 2026, for hearing of the bail applications and ordered that the defendants be remanded at the Agodi Correctional Centre.
