Death of NPC chairman, Yusuf painful – Ukam, federal commissioner mourns

The Federal Commissioner representing Cross River State at the National Population Commission, NPC, Bishop Alex Ukam, has said that the death of the chairman of the National Population Commission, Dr Aminu Yusuf, is particularly painful because he had lofty plans and aspirations for the Commission.
In a tribute, Ukam described the chairman’s death as a rude shock to him as a person and the Commission in general.
Ukam said Yusuf’s death came as a surprise because the NPC chairman was full of life and had shown strong commitment to advancing the affairs of the Commission.
He commiserated with Yusuf’s family, the management and staff of the NPC, describing the late chairman as an impactful leader and a team player who demonstrated goodwill, love, care and support to his colleagues.
According to him, Yusuf’s brief tenure as chairman had already shown the promise of providing purposeful leadership to the Commission.
“We have lost a rare gem. His death is especially painful given the lofty plans and aspirations he held for the NPC,” Ukam said.
The Cross River NPC commissioner, however, said the circumstances of Yusuf’s death should be accepted as the will of God, who gives and takes life according to His own time.
He prayed God to forgive the deceased’s shortcomings, accept his soul and grant his family, colleagues and the entire nation the strength to bear the loss.
Yusuf died on Friday, August 28, 2026.
