Chelsea were forced to settle for a 3-3 draw against Malaysian champions Johor Darul Ta’zim in a lively pre-season friendly at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium on Sunday.
Johor took an early lead in the 14th minute when Arif Aiman finished from close range after the hosts launched a quick attacking move.
Chelsea restored parity five minutes before the break after Liam Delap was brought down inside the box and stepped up to convert the resulting penalty.
Delap completed his brace in the 62nd minute, again from the penalty spot, after Jamie Gittens was fouled in the area to put Chelsea 2-1 ahead.
The hosts responded almost immediately, with Oscar Arribas’ free-kick taking a deflection off Delap before wrong-footing Chelsea goalkeeper Gaga Slonina and finding the back of the net.

Johor regained the advantage in the 86th minute when Brazilian striker Bergson produced a composed 20-yard finish into the corner.
Chelsea, however, rescued a draw three minutes later when Mykhailo Mudryk’s cross struck Johor defender Cristian Glauder and deflected into his own net.
The encounter was a physical affair, with the referee issuing seven yellow cards during the match.
A penalty shootout had been scheduled to follow the friendly, but it was cancelled for reasons that were not immediately disclosed.
Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso made wholesale changes to his team, naming an entirely different starting XI from the side that faced AC Milan just 24 hours earlier. Mamadou Sarr was also replaced before kick-off.
The Blues will now return to England to continue their preparations for the new season, with their final pre-season fixture against Real Sociedad scheduled for Saturday, August 15, at Stamford Bridge.
