Army Recruitment For Short Service Combatant Commission

The Nigerian Army has announced the commencement of recruitment for the Short Service Combatant Commission (SSCC) Course 50/2027, offering qualified Nigerians and serving military personnel an opportunity to become commissioned officers.
According to the Army’s recruitment notice on Tuesday, successful candidates will be deployed across combat arms, including infantry and armour, as well as combat support arms such as artillery, engineers, signals and intelligence.
The recruitment is open to eligible Nigerians who satisfy the stipulated requirements.

Applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible to apply:
– Be Nigerian citizens by birth.
– Be between 23 and 27 years old as of January 10, 2027.
– Meet the Army’s medical, mental and physical fitness requirements.
– Be at least 1.68 metres tall for males and 1.65 metres for females.
– Possess a minimum of Second Class Lower university degree or Lower Credit HND in relevant disciplines.
– Have obtained their tertiary qualifications between 2018 and 2026.
– Civilian applicants must possess an NYSC discharge certificate, while serving military personnel must provide an NYSC exemption certificate.
– Civilian applicants must provide the required institutional attestation and referee recommendations.
– Have no criminal conviction and must not belong to any cult or secret society.
– Applicants with body inscriptions or tattoos are also excluded under the stated conditions.
The army said applications for SSCC Course 50/2027 will open on August 14, 2026, and close on October 17, 2026.
Interested candidates are required to visit the Nigerian Army’s official recruitment portal, select SSCC Course 50/2027, and complete the registration process.
Applicants will be required to upload or present documents including:
– Recent passport photograph
– Educational certificates
– Certificate of state of origin
– Birth certificate or age declaration
– National Identification Number (NIN) slip
– Bank Verification Number (BVN) slip
The Army stressed that the application is completely free.
It also warned prospective applicants against fraudulent recruitment websites and urged them to rely only on information published through official Nigerian Army channels.
Successful candidates selected for the SSCC will be granted a 15-year commission, initially comprising 10 years on the active list.
The commission may subsequently be renewed for up to five additional years, subject to applicable conditions.
The army further explained that SSCC officers may have an opportunity to convert to a regular combatant commission, although such conversion is not automatic and remains subject to the applicable requirements and conditions.
