Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has renewed his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid to secure a second term in office in the 2027 presidential election.

Adeleke made the declaration on Sunday while addressing journalists shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared him the winner of the Osun State governorship election.

The governor, who contested the election on the platform of the Accord Party, described President Tinubu as a “son of Osun State” and praised him for supporting a free and fair electoral process in the state.

According to Adeleke, “At this point, I must deeply appreciate Mr President, His Excellency Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his strong support for a free and fair election.

“Mr President is a son of Osun State, and I hereby reaffirm my earlier endorsement of him for a second term in the 2027 presidential election.”

Adeleke secured 511,067 votes to defeat his closest rival, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes.

The governor won in 19 of Osun State’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji prevailed in 11. Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) finished third with 17,180 votes.

Earlier on Sunday, Adeleke revealed that President Tinubu had personally called to congratulate him on his electoral victory.

He also expressed his expectation that Oyebamiji would reach out to congratulate him, stressing that the election should not create lasting divisions among the people.

“Yes. This is no victor, no vanquished. I want them to come over. I am expecting Oyebamiji, even as a civilised person, to call me and congratulate me,” Adeleke said.

He further thanked President Tinubu for his role in ensuring the democratic process was sustained during the election.

“Mr President has called me and he has congratulated me. And I thank you, Mr President, for making sure democracy lives on, because you fought for it, Mr President,” he added.
