The Oyo State 2027 gubernatorial candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Bimbo Adekanmbi, has held a meeting with property owners affected by the Ibadan Circular Road project, assuring them that a people-centred approach would remain central to his development agenda.

In a post on his X page, Adekanmbi said the engagement with property owners along the Circular Road corridor was fruitful, noting that while the stakeholders agreed on the importance of the project to Oyo State, further discussions were necessary to ensure an acceptable resolution for affected residents.

“While we all agreed that the Circular Road project is necessary and critical to Oyo State, the meeting also agreed that engagement must be thorough and continuous until the agreed compromise is implemented by the government and the affected property owners,” he said.

He added, “I assure them that people-centric development is the goal and we won’t change from that.”

The meeting comes against the backdrop of the Oyo State Government’s approval of N5.813 billion in compensation for affected property owners and other categories of persons impacted by the Circular Road project.

According to the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, the compensation is expected to address concerns surrounding the project and facilitate further development along the corridor.

The State Executive Council said the payment would help end agitation and misinformation surrounding the project, while creating room for accelerated planning and development, boosting investor confidence and advancing the vision for the transformation of Ibadan and Oyo State.

The council also recalled that more than N800 million had previously been paid as compensation to displaced persons during the first phase of the exercise over the past 18 months.
